Dahlia 'Belle of Barmera' – a dance of peach and raspberry
The Dahlia 'Belle of Barmera' is one of those flowers you won't soon forget. The enormous dinner-plate flowers, up to 25 centimeters across, have a uniquely playful shape thanks to the graceful twisting of their petals. The soft color gradient from peachy pink to coral-raspberry red gives each flower the appearance of a summer sunset. On long, sturdy stems of about a meter tall, the flowers sway gently in the wind, filling your garden with movement and warmth.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Belle of Barmera' blooms all summer long, from July until the first frost. Each flower opens slowly, surprising you again and again with its deep, flowing color palette. The more often you cut flowers for a vase, the more new buds will appear.
Location and care
This dahlia prefers a sunny spot in well-drained, fertile soil. Plant the tubers in spring, a few centimeters deep and with sufficient space (40 cm) between plants to allow the generous flowers to fully develop. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and remove spent flowers to prolong flowering.
In winter you can dig up the tubers and store them frost-free, or in mild winters leave them in the ground with a thick protective layer of straw or leaves.
