Why you want Dahlia Bishop of York in your garden
Dahlia 'Bishop of York' – sunbeams above dark leaves
Dahlia 'Bishop of York' brings your garden to life with its playful colors. Its semi-double flowers radiate a warm ochre-yellow hue, resembling tiny suns rising above the dark, almost black foliage. The contrast is enchanting: while the foliage adds depth and tranquility, the flowers provide a cheerful light.
Flowering and growth
From July until well into autumn, 'Bishop of York' blooms continuously. The heart of the flower is richly filled with nectar, attracting bees and butterflies in abundance. Each flower opens invitingly towards the sun, transforming your garden into a vibrant space full of movement and buzz.
Location and care
Dahlia 'Bishop of York' thrives in a sunny spot and thrives in fertile, well-drained soil. Plant the tubers in spring, a few centimeters deep and with sufficient space (40 cm) between them to allow them to develop well. Water regularly, especially during dry spells, and remove spent flowers to prolong flowering. In winter, you can dig up the tubers and store them in a frost-free location, or protect them with a thick layer of mulch in mild winters.
Why choose Dahlia 'Bishop of York'?
This dahlia is more than just a cheerful flower. It combines dark, almost mystical foliage with sunny flowers that bring warmth and light. Its semi-double flowers are beloved by bees and butterflies, transforming your garden into a haven of life. It's the perfect dahlia for those who love color, simplicity, and a garden filled with little wonders.
Combination tip
'Bishop of York' combines beautifully with other dark-leaved dahlias from the Bishop series, such as the Bishop of Canterbury dahlia .
