Dahlia 'Dear Alexander' – butter yellow with a surprising edge
Dahlia 'Dear Alexander' is a new addition to the dahlia collection. Its petals are a soft buttery yellow, each edged with a delicate plum-colored edge. This subtle contrast gives the flower depth and makes it just that little bit different. The petals are slightly curled and taper to a point, giving the flower a playful and striking shape.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Dear Alexander' blooms from early summer until the first frost, producing flowers about 12 cm across. The flowers are on long, sturdy stems that rise high above the foliage. This makes them ideal for cutting for a vase. The more you cut, the more new buds will appear. The plant itself grows to a height of about 1 to 1.2 meters.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in a sunny spot in well-drained, fertile soil. Plant them about 10 cm deep and give them plenty of room to spread out. During dry spells, provide some extra water and remove spent flowers to encourage longer flowering. In winter, dig up the tubers and store them frost-free, or protect them with mulch during mild winters.
