Dahlia 'Klara Zak' – warm tones with a hint of raspberry
Dahlia 'Klara Zak' is a new variety, and I added it to our collection because of the beautiful warm colors it changes during flowering. The flowers, about 14 cm long, have a unique interplay of colors: the tops of the petals are peachy pink, while the undersides have a raspberry-red glow. In midsummer, you'll see more raspberry, and towards autumn, it develops warm rust tones.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Klara Zak' blooms from mid-summer until the first frost, producing a profusion of flowers throughout the entire season. The plant grows to about 100 cm tall, remaining compact enough for borders, yet producing long, sturdy stems that are excellent for cutting. The more often you prune, the more new buds will appear.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in well-drained, fertile soil. Give them a sunny spot and provide some extra water during dry periods. Removing spent flowers encourages flowering and extends the season. You can dig up the tubers in winter and store them frost-free, or protect them with mulch if the winter is mild.
