Why you want Dahlia Rhubarb and Custard in your garden
Dahlia 'Rhubarb and Custard' – a summery mix of colors full of nectar
Dahlia 'Rhubarb and Custard' sounds like a dessert on a dessert card, and let me tell you, it looks just like one in flower form. It has salmon-pink petals topped with a reddish-pink collar and a soft yellow, well-filled center bursting with nectar. It's summer captured in a flower that, besides soft, dreamy blooms, also attracts a buzz of sweetness to your garden.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Rhubarb and Custard' blooms profusely from early summer until the first frost. The flowers are about 8cm across and grow on sturdy, long stems that reach a height of around 100cm. Because it's a single-flowered variety, the center remains clearly visible, something bees, bumblebees, and butterflies love. The more often you cut back the flowers, the more new buds the plant will produce.
Location and care
Plant the corms after the last frost in loose, well-drained soil and choose a sunny spot. During warm, dry weeks, provide extra water to encourage flowering. By removing spent flowers, the plant will continue to invest energy in new blooms. In winter, dig up the corms and store them in a frost-free place, or protect them with a thick layer of mulch if the winter is mild.
Why choose Dahlia 'Rhubarb and Custard'?
Because it adds soft, warm colors and life to your garden. Its salmon-pink and red-pink hues make it playful, while its open center ensures a constant flow of pollinators.
Combination tip
I love the combination of the sweet pink dahlia flowers and strawberry cream. It completes the dessert menu.
