Dahlia 'Totally Tangerine' – anemone dahlia with terracotta-orange flowers
Dahlia 'Totally Tangerine' was the first to bloom for me last summer, and it lasted well into November. Its flowers are terracotta orange with a soft pink blush, as if the sun and summer had combined to create a single flower. Its open, well-filled center makes it not only a feast for the eyes but also a magnet for bees and bumblebees.
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Totally Tangerine' grows to about 80 cm tall and produces flowers of about 8 cm across. It's compact enough to plant at the front of a border or in a pot, yet vigorous enough to produce new flowers all summer long. The anemone-shaped flowers stand firmly on their stems and keep coming, especially if you regularly cut them for vase use.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in a sunny spot with loose, well-drained soil. During dry weeks, provide some extra water. Removing spent flowers keeps the plant productive and ensures extended flowering. In winter, dig up the tubers and store them in a frost-free location, or protect them with mulch in mild winters.
