Dahlia 'Verrone's Obsidian' – almost black flower with a golden center
Dahlia 'Verrone's Obsidian' has star-shaped flowers so deep, dark red they almost appear black. At its center, a bright yellow heart bursts with nectar, an irresistible invitation to bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. Its petals are slightly twisted, giving it a beautiful, delicate appearance. A small work of art!
Flowering and growth
Dahlia 'Verrone's Obsidian' grows to a medium-sized plant of about 100 cm tall and produces flowers 10 cm across. The star-shaped petals curl subtly inward, giving the flowers added depth. It blooms throughout the summer until the first frost, attracting plenty of pollinators to your garden during that period.
Location and care
Plant the tubers after the last frost in a sunny spot with loose, fertile soil. During warm, dry weeks, provide some extra water. Removing spent flowers will help the plant continue to produce new buds. In winter, you can dig up the tubers and store them frost-free, or protect them with a thick layer of mulch in mild winters.
